David Dweske (Service No 416) was born in Sydney around 1897.

At enlistment David was single, 19 years old, worked as a farmer and lived in Gerringong, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A72 Beltana with 36th Battalion, Headquarters, on 13th May 1916.

After arriving in England on 9th July 1916 David served as a batman at HQ in England until he went to France on 22nd November 1916.

He saw service on the Western Front until 31st January 1917 when he was wounded in action.  David was evacuated to hospital in England, seriously injured & dangerously ill, for treatment of a gun shot wound to his face.

He was repatriated to Australia in January 1918, and discharged medically unfit with a pension on 16th April 1918.

In 1921 David married Emily Jones in Lithgow, and the couple raised 2 sons who both served in World War II.

David died in Sydney in 1942.
