Thomas William McAuliffe
Thomas McAuliffe (Service no 2688) was born in Kiama, NSW.
At the time of enlistment in Kiama, NSW, Thomas was single, 19 years of age, employed as a horse driver, residing in Jamberoo, NSW and had previously served 4 years with the Cadets.
Thomas embarked on HMAT A40 - Ceramic with the 45th Battalioin, 6th Reinforcements on 7 October 1916. He arrived in England on 21 November 1916 and joined the 13th Battalion in the field in France on 6 March 1917.
Thomas saw service on the Western Front until 12 June 1917 when he was wounded in action near Messines, Belgium. He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right arm. While recovering he was able to meet up with his brother 2748 Gabriel McAuliffe.
Thomas was repatriated to Australia in December 1917 and after further treatment was medically discharged on 1 July 1918.
On 11 August 1934 he married Annie Bailey in Sydney, NSW and together they raised 2 children.
Thomas died in Concord Hospital in 1970 and is buried in Mona Vale Cemetery.
He is remembered on the Jambaroo Roll of Honor along with his brother Gabrielle
