Charles Bye (Service No 1174) was born in Glamorganshire, Wales.

At enlistment Charles was single, 26 years old, worked as a labourer and lived in Corrimal, N.S.W.

He embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A38 Ulysses with 13th Battalion, G Company, on 22nd December 1914.  He arrived in Egypt soon after and was sent to Gallipoli on 25th April 1915.

Charles was wounded in action on 9th May 1915 and evacuated to hospital in Cairo.  His National Archives of Australia documents state that he had bruised toes, but he also had shrapnel pieces in his hip.  He was repatriated to Australia in July 1915 and discharged medically unfit with a pension on 29th November 1915.

Charles died in Dubbo in 1951.
