Daniel Burrows (Service No 5243) was born in Sutherland, Sydney, around 1888.

At enlistment he was single, 28 years old, employed as a miner and lived at Scarborough, N.S.W.  He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A71 Nestor with 2nd Battalion, 16th Reinforcement, on 9th April 1916.

He arrived in Egypt on 1st May 1916 and joined 2nd Battalion on 28th March 1916.  On 10th June he was transferred to 54th Battalion and arrived in France with them on 29th June 1916.  Daniel saw service at Fromelle and has no wounding on fille for this battle.

On 23rd December 1916 he returned to 2nd Battalion and served with them until he was wounded in action on 4th October 1917 at Passchendaele.  Daniel received a shrapnel wound to his chest and was treated at hospital in France.

He returned to duty on 14th November 1917 and served on the Western Front until the end of the war.

Daniel was returned to Australia in April 1919 and discharged from the AIF on 26th July 1919.

Daniel died in June 1955.
