Richard Moss
Richard Moss (Service No 707) was born in Wigan, England. He had served for 18 months with the Manchester Territorials before coming to Australia some time before 1914, when he married Aline/ Aleen Gallen at Kiama, N.S.W.
Richard enlisted in Wollongong, N.S.W. when he was 26 years old and working as a labourer. He and his wife lived in nearby Shellharbour. Richard was given a send off at the Temperance Hall in Kiama before he left for active service.
He embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A60 Aeneas 9th Machine Gun Company, Reinforcement 12 on 30th October 1917. He arrived in England on 27th December 1917 and joined his unit in France on 16th September 1918.
On 18th August 1919 he was granted leave to take part in Motor Trade Training until 30th September 1919.
Richard was returned to Australia in January 1920 and discharged from the AIF on 12th March 1920.
In 1935 he was living in Minnamurra near Kiama.
Richard's service is commemorated on the Shellharbour Rolls of Honour and Memorial.
