John McPherson
John McPherson was born in Calcutta, India.
John arrived in Australia in 1913 and had served with the Scottish Horse RAMC Territorials.
At enlistment he was 33 years old, single, worked as a doctor and lived in Bulli, N.S.W.
John embarked on HMAT A72 Beltana, with the 36th Battalion Headquarters, as a Captain on 13th May 1916. He arrived in England on 9th July 1916 and joined 36th Battalion D Company, as the medical officer in France, on 22nd November 1916. John was promoted to Major on 20th June 1917 and posted to the 9th Field Ambulance on 6th August 1917.
On 23rd March 1918 John married Evelyn Smith, in York, England and was posted to various hospitals in England, soon after. On 5th April 1919 he was granted leave for Medical Study at the Edinburgh University, until 5th July 1919. John applied for discharge in London, this was approved and he was discharged on 6th October 1919.
John returned to Australia with his wife and child, and was living in Tasmania in 1928.
His file states he died in 1958.
John is commemorated for his service on the Bulli Woonona War Memorial.
