Carl Synnerdahl (Service no 5231) was born in Tasmania.

At the time of enlistment Carl was single, 22 years of age, employed as a fisherman and resided in Kiama, NSW.  Carl joined the Waratah March in Kiama where he enlisted.

Carl embarked on SS Makarini on 1 April 1916 with many other Waratah men. He arrived in France on 29 June 1916, joined the 53rd Battalion in the field on 23 September 1916 and he sawservice on the Western Front.

Carl was returned to Australia in February 1919 and medically discharged with disability on 13 April 1919.

In 1919 Carl married Edith Currier.  They divorced in 1937.

Carl served on Newtown Council from 1929 until 1931.

Carl died in 1956 and is buried in Eastern Suburbs Cemetery.

Carl is remembered on the Nowra Post Office and Showground Rolls of Honor.
