Joseph Leslie Campbell (Service No 17656) was born in West Wyalong, N.S.W.

At enlistment he was 21 years old, single, worked as a clerk and had served 4 years with the University Scouts. Joseph listed his parents, who were living at Bellambi, N.S.W., as his next of kin.

Joseph embarked on HMAT A15 Port Sydney with the 1st - 4th Signal Troop Reinforcement on 9th May 1917. He arrived in Egypt on 20th June 1917 and was attached to the Australian Airline Section and the Desert Mounted Corps as a signaller. Joseph was not wounded but contracted malaria in 1918. He returned to Australia in August 1919, and was discharged on 4th October 1919.

Joseph died in Sydney, N.S.W., in 1971.
