Thomas James Bylett
Thomas Bylett (Service No 2134) was born in Croydon, England around 1878. After arriving in Australia he settled in Kiama, N.S.W.
At enlistment, Thomas was single, 38 years old, and worked as a labourer. He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A15 Port Sydney with 56th Battalion, 4th Reinforcements on 4th September 1916.
He arrived in England on 29th October 1916 and joined 56th Battalion in the field on 23rd December 1916. Thomas served on the Western Front until 3rd February 1917 when he was evacuated to hospital suffering from severe shell shock.
Thomas was returned to Australia in May 1917 and discharged, medically unfit, on 19th September 1917.
Thomas died in Sydney age 90 in 1968 and is buried in the Field of Mars Cemetery.
He is commemorated on the Kiama Memorial Arch and Honour Rolls.
