Ainsley Neville McDonald
Ainsley McDonald (Service no 2363) was born in Dapto, NSW.
At the time of enlistment Ainsley was single, 22 years of age, employed as a labourer, resided in Lismore and had served 18 months previously with the Militia.
Ainsley embarked from Melbourne, Victoria with Australian Army Service Corps, Company 10 on the HMAT A26 - Armadale on 20 October 1914. He arrived and served in Egypt during December 1914.
Ainsley was promoted to Lance Corporal on 1 August 1915. He was transferred to 26th Battalion on 10 March 1916 and arrived in France on 21 March 1916. Ainsley was wounded in action on 11 June 1916 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his back. He returned to the 26th Battalion who were on the ground in Belgium on 2 July 1916.
Ainsley was evacuated to hospital in England on 18 January 1917 for treatment for trench feet. He remained in England and was returned to Australia in February 1918 after being diagnosed with defective vision.
Ainsley was medically discharged on 24 July 1918. After discharge, he moved to Queensland and became a farmer. Ainsley married Ada Northgraves on 31 March 1921 and together they had 2 children.
Ainsley he died in 1935. He is buried in Degilbo Cemetery, Queensland.
