Francis Ernest McNamara
Francis McNamara (Service no 1746) was born in Kiama, NSW in 1884.
At the time of enlistment Francis was married, 30 years of age, employed as a labourer and resided in Port Kembla, NSW.
In 1910 Francis married Mabel Lawrence in Dapto, NSW and together they had 3 children.
Francis embarked on HMAT A61 - Kanowna with the 20th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcements on 19 June 1915. Francis arrived in Egypt and with his unit was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey on 31 August 1915.
Francis was admitted to a Casualty Clearing station on the Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey with shell shock but returned to duty soon after.
On 19 September 1915 Francis was admitted to hospital with Dysentery. He arrived in France on 25 March 1916 and saw service on the Western Front. There is no record of injury but Francis was admitted to hospital due to illness during his service.
Francis returned to Australia in April 1919 and was discharged on 30 July 1919.
Francis worked for the Railways in Dapto, NSW after the War.
He was admitted to hospital in Broken Hill, NSW where he died suddenly in 1937.
Francis is buried in Jamberoo Cemetery, NSW
