Richard Hickman (Service no 6151) was born in London, England.

At the time of enlistment in Kiama, NSW, Richard was single, 22 years of age, employed as a clerk and resided in Kiama, NSW.  Richard enlisted under the alias Richard Robert Burns and embarked on the HMAT A18 - Wiltshire with the 13th Battalion, 19th Reinforcements on 22 August 1916.

Richard arrived in England on 13 October 1916 and was then transferred to France on 28 December where he was posted to the 19th Battalion on 5 February 1917.

On 15 April 1917 Richard was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his head. 

On 19th May 1917, Richard advised the authorities of his true surname and next of kin (father's details) in England.   Richard remained in England and had other hospital admissions during this time. 

He was repatriated to Australia in May 1918 and was medically discharged on 15 August 1918. 

Richard died in 1962 and is buried in Rookwood Cemetery.
