Robert Hunter
Robert Hunter (Service No 13787) was born in Northumberland, England in 1893 and came to Australia with his family in November 1912.
At enlistment he was 23 years old, single and worked as a school teacher. Robert was the first in his family to enlist.
He embarked on HMAT A61 Kanowna with the Army Medical Corps, Special Reinforcements, on 29th March 1916.
Robert disembarked in Egypt on 9th May 1916 and was posted to the 4th Light Horse Field Ambulance. He also served with the 14th Australian General Hospital and saw service in Egypt and the Middle East. Robert went to England in 1919 and got leave to work from 27th June 1919 until 31st October 1919.
On 26th August 1919, Robert married Margaret Walker in England . The couple returned to Australia in December 1919 and he was discharged on 13th March 1920.
Robert died in 1969 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery.
He is commemorated for his service on the Bulli Woonona War Memorial.
Robert's brother Austin Hunter (Service No 3567) and his father Edward Hunter (Service No 1419), also served.
