Charles Lambourne Dewley (Service No 2628) was born in Dapto, N.S.W., and attended the Illawarra Public School. 

In 1887, he married Elizabeth Williams and the couple had 4 children.

At enlistment Charles was 45 years old and worked as an insurance agent in Sydney, N.S.W.

He embarked on HMAT A71 Nestor with the  30th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement, on 9th April 1916. On board the Nestor was his son, Harry Dewley (Service No 4396), with the 20th Battalion. Charles disembarked in Egypt in May 1916 and went on to England from there. He joined the 30th Battalion, D Company, in France on 15th October 1916 and saw service on the Western Front..

On 19th September 1917, Charles was detached to serve with the 14th Field Ambulance. He was returned to Australia in June 1919 and discharged on 24th December 1919.

Charles died in Sydney, N.S.W., in 1942.
