Harry Douglas Bennett McPaul
Harry McPaul (Service No 383) was born in Bega, N.S.W. in 1885.
At enlistment he was single, 29 years old and employed as a school teacher at Eureka, near Lismore, N.S.W.
He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A32 Themistocles with 17th Battalion, A Company on 12th May 1915. He arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli on 16th August 1915 where he served until evacuated sick on 5th October 1915. He was sent on to hospital in England and then sent on to France from there.
Harry joined 53rd Battalion in France on 9th October 1916 but returned to 17th Battalion on 13th March 1917.
He saw service on the Western Front as a signaller until 11th August 1918 when he was killed in action.
Harry is buried at Harbonnieres, France, at Heath Cemetery; Plot IV, Row B, Grave 7.
Harry's service and sacrifice is commemorated on the Helensburgh Workers Club Honour Roll & the Helensburgh Roll of Honour (Helensburgh Community Hall).
