Thomas Morrison, born in Mount Kembla in 1892, was the son of John and Agnes Morrison. He enlisted in the AIF on 5 November, 1914. On enlistment he was described as a 22 year old miner. On 11 February, 1915, he sailed on the HMAT A48 Seang Bee with 2nd Reinforcements 4th Battalion. #1404 Private Morrison landed on Gallipoli with B company, where he was wounded in action with a bullet wound to the scalp. He was subsequently evacuated to hospital in Malta for treatment. His records show that he returned to the Dardanelles on 2 August, 1915, but on 19 November, 1915, the Battalion C.O. reported that there was no trace of Thomas's present whereabouts; he neverthelss arrived in Alexandria with his battalion on 29 December, 1915, & was promoted to Lance Corporal on 20 January, 1916. Thomas arrived in Marseilles on 30 March, 1916, & was subsequently killed in action 'in the field' in France on 23 July, 1916. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneaux, France. His brother, James, (#3151) served with the 34th Battalion and returned to Australia. Thomas had two brothers, Henry and Alexander, who died in the Mount Kembla mine disaster on 31 July, 1902.
