Ole Mathisen (Service No 3392) was born in Tonsberg, Norway around 1890.

At enlistment he was 25 years old, single and worked as a  labourer. He listed a friend on the South Coast as his next of kin.

Ole embarked on HMAT A17 Port Lincoln with the 13th Battalion, 11th Reinforcement,  on 13th October 1915. He disembarked in Egypt and was sent to France in March 1916. Ole was transferred to the 4th Pioneer Battalion on 10th July 1916.

Ole saw service on the Western Front until 7th April 1918, when he was listed as missing in action. He had been taken prisoner by the Germans. Ole was repatriated to England on 8th December 1918. He returned to Australia in May 1919 and  was discharged medically unfit on 14th August 1919.

Ole died in Sydney, N.S.W., in 1960 and is buried in Rookwood Cemetery.
