John Coulburn Mayne
Jack Mayne (Service no 31186) was born in Camden, NSW. At the time of enlistment with his brother, Charles Mayne (Service no 31187) Jack was single, 21 years of age, employed as a station worker and living with his mother in Park Street, Wollongong, NSW. He had previously served with the Senior Cadets and 26th Australian Army Medical Corps.
Jack and Charles embarked on RMS Orontes with Divisional Ammunition Column 2, Reinforcement 12 arriving in England on 17 February 1917. Jack joined the 2nd Division Ammunition Column in France on 1 October 1917 and was transferred to 4th Field Artillery Brigade on 18 January 1918.
On 18 March 1918, Jack was admitted to hospital with trench fever. He saw service on the Western Front and was promoted to Corporal on 1 January 1919.
Jack was returned to Australia in April 1919 and discharged on 18 July 1919.
In January 1926, he married Catherine McDiarmid in Brisbane, Queensland and together they raised 4 children.
Jack died age 105 in 2000.
