William Whitmore Gillan
William Gillan (Service no 692) was born in Bathurst, NSW. On 27 March 1904 William married Elizabeth Boyle in Bathurst, NSW.
At the time of enlistment William was married, 32 years of age and employed as a fettler. William embarked on HMAT A55 - Kyarra with the 2nd Australian General Hospital on 28 November 1914. He arrived in Egypt where he served as nursing staff with the hospital.
On 20 April 1916, William was transferred to the 13th Field Ambulance and arrived in France on 13 June 1916. William saw service on the Western Front and was returned to Australia as nursing staff in April 1919. He was discharged on 12 July 1919.
William died in Concord Hospital, Sydney, NSW in 1948 leaving his widow and 6 children.
