Harry Ryall was born in Mount Kembla and lived there until he enlisted in the A.I.F. He was employed as a switchboard operator. He had spent 2 years in the Citizens Forces. He embarked on SS Wyreema with his unit on 14th October 1918, as the war ended while he was at sea he never saw active service. In 1924 he married Christian James. A letter on his file from his father states his objection to his son's enlistment at such a young age. Harry's younger brother Frederick also enlisted in September 1918 but did not leave Australia.
