Arthur Frank Bevan
Arthur Bevan (Service no 2908) was born in Wollongong, NSW. At the time of enlistment Arthur was single, 18 years of age, employed as a clerk and had previously served 4 years with the Cadets.
Arthur embarked on HMAT A14 - Euripides with the 17th Battalion, 6th Reinforcements on 2 November 1915. After arriving in Egypt, he was transferred to 55th Battalion on 26 March 1916.
Arthur arrived in France on 30 June 1916 but was posted to the 14th Brigade Headquarters on 25 August 1916 and served there for most of the War. This was probably due to his age and clerical background. Arthur saw service on the Western Front.
He was returned to Australia in April 1919 and discharged on 26 July 1919.
On 18 February 1924, Arthur married Jessie Wright and together they raised 2 children. He worked in his father's Real Estate Agency after the War.
Arthur died in 1960 and is remembered on the Wollongong War Memorial.
