Griffith Bevan (Service no 5044) was born in Neath, Wales in October 1887.

At the time of enlistment Griffith was single, 28 years of age, employed as a miner and residing in Corrimal, NSW.

He embarked on the HMAT A31- Ajana with the 19th Battalion, 13th Reinforcements on 5 July 1916 and arrived in England on 21 August 1916. He joined 19th Battalion in the field on 22 October 1916 and saw service with them on the Western Front.

Griffith was wounded in action on 28 May 1918 and sent to hospital in England for treatment resulting from a gas attack.  He returned to the front on 23 August 1918 and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 8 November 1918.

He returned to Australia in June 1919 and was discharged on 22 September 1919.  After the War he worked for the Bellambi Coal Company  and does not seem to have married. He died in Bulli in 1956 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery.
