Arthur Hill Jamieson
Arthur Jamieson (Service No 3212) was born in Muirkirk, Scotland and travelled to Australia. He obtained work as a Miner at Mount Kembla. His initial enlistment was rejected, and as reported by his family he felt discontented. Soon after he packed his belongings in a blanket and travelled to Bathurst where on 1st November his enlistment was successful. As Private Jamieson he embarked on HMAT A29 Suevic with the 56th Battalion on 11th November, 1916. He saw service on the Western Front and was gassed, which affected him for the rest of his life.
When the war ended he worked as a miner in England for 3 months and was then returned to Australia.
He was discharged in January 1920. On 20th November, 1920 he married Marion Russell in Wollongong. They lived in Mount Kembla and raised their family.
He died age 86 in 1975.
