Lieutenant Walter Chapman (Service no. 3725) was born in Unanderra circa 1893 and attended Unanderra Public School. Prior to enlisting he was working as a relief night watchman.

Walter embarked on HMAT A 14 Euripides with 11th Reinforcements 3rd Battalion on 2nd November 1915. He saw service on the Western Front and was commissioned on 27th September 1917 as 2nd Lieutenant. On 1st April 1918 he was promoted to Lieutenant.

He was recommended for the French Croix de Guerre on 30th August,1918 but it is unclear if this was awarded.

Lieutenant Chapman returned to Australia in July 1919 and was discharged from the AIF on 12th October 1919. There is no further information available on Walter Chapman.
