Stanley Denniss (Service no 5077) was born in Robertson, NSW about 1895. He is described, at his enlistment, as a single 21 year old farmer from Dapto. He had spent 4 years in the Senior Cadets and 2 years in the CMF.

He embarked on the SS Makarini on 1st April 1916 with 16th Reinforcements, 1st Battalion.
On 5th July 1916 during the Somme Battle Stanley was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment on gun shot wounds to his right arm.

Stanley returned to Australia in November 1916 and was discharged as medically unfit on 13th April 1917.He returned to farming at Keira and in 1939 married Valda Meeth at Marrickville. His brother Wilfred (Service No 6735) was killed in action.
