William Armstrong (Service No1464) was born in Helensburgh about 1892 according to his enlistment document. However Birth Death Marriage information indicates a William Armstrong born Helensburgh in 1895. His parents appear to be alive as they are referred to in documents, but by initials only. He lists his sister, Mrs Spowart of Cessnock, as next of kin. His enlistment documents show him to be a single 22 year old cordial maker.

William embarked on HMAT A48 Seang Bee on 11th February 1915 with 2nd Reinforcements, 4th Battalion.
After arriving in Egypt he joined D Company, 4th Battalion and was sent to Gallipoli. He was killed during the Lone Pine battle between 6th and 9th August 1915. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Lone Pine Memorial.
