Frederick William Charles Bennett was born in Birkenhead, Chesire, England. Fred's family arrived in Australia when he was 9 months old.
Fred was living at Thirroul, N.S.W. when he enlisted. He was 18 of age, single and working as a miner.

Fred embarked on the 24th August 1916 from Sydney on board HMAT A68 Anchisis. He served on the Western Front in France and Belgium.
On 21 February 1917 while fighting in France, Fred was killed. He was 19 years old.

There is no known grave for Fred, although records show he was buried '2 1/4 miles south of Bapaume (France). He is commemmorated at Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, the Australian War Memorial and the Albion Park Roll of Honor, Centenary Hall, Tongarra Road, Albion Park, N.S.W.
