Dominick John Burgess (Service No 6973) was born in Wollongong, NSW about 1871 and had served in the Militia. He moved from the area and in 1892 he married Margaret Darwall in Albury, NSW. At the time of enlistment in Melbourne, VIC, he was listed as a 44 year old married grazier.

Dominick embarked on HMAT A7 Medic with 23rd Reinforcements, 14th Battalion on 16th December 1916. Soon after leaving Australia he contracted measles and died while en-route to Egypt. He was buried at sea.
