Sydney Barnett
Sydney Barnett (Service No 1800) was born in Cobar, N.S.W. around 1885. He enlisted in Queensland and at which time was 31 years old, single, and working as a labourer. Sydney listed his widowed Mother who lived at Bulli, N.S.W. as his next of kin.
Sydney embarked from Brisbane on board HMAT A 42 Boorora on 16th August 1916 with 2nd Reinforcements, 42nd Battalion. The troops arrived in England on 14th October 1916, then were sent on to France, arriving on 17th February 1917.
While fighting at Messines in Belgium, Sydney was killed in action.
There is no known grave. Sydney is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, Belgium.
