Murray Jones (Service No 4458) was born in Lithgow, N.S.W around 1898.

When Murray enlisted at the age of 18 year, he was living at Austinmer, N.S.W., worked as a labourer, and was single.   He had served 4 years with the Cadets.

The photograph below shows Murray on the drums.

Murray embarked from Sydney on HMAT A71 Nestor with 11th Reinforcements, 17th Battalion on 9th April 1916.  The troops arrived in England after a stop in Egypt and Murray arrived in France on 26th November 1917.  Murray joined the 18th Battalion and saw service on the Western Front until the end of the war. 

Murray was  returned to Australia in May 1919, and discharged on 19th August 1919.

Murray died 1987 and does not appear to have married.

Murray's service is commemorated on the Austinmer War Memorial.
