George Bruce (Service No 1573) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland about 1884 and made his way to Australia. At the time of enlistment he was a single 32 year old labourer from Port Kembla.

George embarked on HMAT A24 Benalla with 4th Reinforcements, Light Trench Mortar Battery on 9th November, 1916. He arrived in England on 9th January, 1917 and after some discipline issues finally arrived in France on 12th October, 1917.

On 26th December, 1917 George transferred to 14th Battalion and saw service on the Western Front with them until he was wounded in action.

On 31st May, 1918 George received a gun shot wound to his back and was evacuated to England for treatment. He was returned to Australia in March, 1919 and discharged on 10th June, 1919.

Nothing more is known about George Bruce.
