William Anderson (Service No 156) was born in Bulli, NSW and attended Corrimal Public school.

Enlisting 3 months before his brother Ernest, William was single, 22 years old and working as a miner at enlistment.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A35 Berrima with 20th Battalian, A Company on 25th June 1915.  After the troops arrived in Egypt William was sent to Gallipoli where he served until evacuated sick on 3rd October 1915. He was sent to hospital in England and returned to his unit in France on 12th July 1916.

William was wounded in action on 29th July 1916 and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right leg.  He returned to his unit on 17th January 1917.

On 6th March William was promoted to Lance Corporal.

On 2nd May 1917 he was wounded a second time and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of gun shot wounds to his left thigh and right shoulder.

William was wounded a third time, on 4th October 1917, but the injury was minor and he was back on duty by 7th October.

On 9th October 1917 William was promoted to Corporal, and on 22nd September 1918 he was promoted to Sergeant.

William was returned to Australia in January 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 9th May 1919.

In 1921 William married Parthenia Pursehouse in Bulli.

William's service commemorated on the Corrimal Public school Roll of Honor in NSW.
