Walter Barlow Bronson
Walter Bronson (Service no 2691) was born in Sydney, NSW.
Walter married Dorothy Funnell on 1 October 1913 and together they had 6 children, only one of these children enlisted.
At the time of enlistment, Walter was married, 24 years of age, employed as a bootmaker and resided in Wollongong, NSW.
Walter embarked on HMAT A24 - Benalla with the 39th Battalion, 5th Reinforcements on 9 November 1916. He arrived in England on 9 January 1917 and joined the battalion in France on 25 March 1917.
Walter saw service on the Western Front and was wounded in action on 8 June 1917. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his hand and forearm and was returned to duty on 26 June 1917.
Walter returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged on 22 July 1919.
Walter worked for Public Works after the War and was a member of the Salvation Army Band.
Walter died after a short illness in 1950.
