Charles Bryce (Service no 394) was born in Thirroul, NSW.

At the time of his enlistment Charles was single, 23 years of age and employed as a motor driver.

Charles embarked on HMAT A14 - Euripides with the 3rd Battalion, B Company on 19 October 1914.  He arrived in Egypt in December 1914 and found himself at Gallipoli, Turkey on 25 April.

On 19 May 1915, Charles was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a bullet wound to his neck.  In October 1915, he was returned to Australia to recouperate. 

On 18 May 1916, Charles was on the HMAT A40 - Ceramic heading for France, arriving on 29 June 1916 where he joined the 55th Battalion.  On 20 February 1917, Charles was promoted to Corporal and saw service on the Western Front.  Charles was wounded in action again on 2 April 1917 and treated for a bullet wound to his wrist.  He returned to his Unit on 1 July 1917.

Charles was repatriated to Australia in November 1918 and medically discharged on 1 April 1919 as a result of his old neck wound. 

On 16 October 1919, Charles married Mabel Ganderton in Kiama, NSW and together they had 4 children.  The family later moved to Casino, QLD.  Their marriage failed, they divorced in 1933 and Charles continued to raise the children.

Charles died in Murwillumbah in 1969.
