Ambrose Oliver Brown
Ambrose Brown (Service no 3129) was born in Bulli, NSW and moved to Queensland with his family some time after 1906.
At the time of enlistment, Ambrose was single, 24 years of age, employed as a farmer and resided in Belmont, Queensland. He and his brother Eric Brown (Service no 3130) enlisted on the same day and embarked together on HMAT A64 - Demosthenes from Sydney, NSW with the 49th Battalion, 8th Reinforcements on 23 December 1916.
Ambrose arrived in England on 3 March 1917 and was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps on 15 June 1917. He joined the 1st Machine Gun Company in Belgium on 23 October 1917.
Ambrose saw service on the Western Front and was posted with his brother from enlistment until discharge.
In 1919, Ambrose was granted leave for farm employment from 5 April 1919 until 4 July 1919. He was returned to Australia in August 1919 and discharged on 21 November 1919.
On 17th March 1923 he married Mary Hayes and together they had 2 children.
Ambrose was employed by the Dillingham Mining Company as a nurseryman to grow plants to use in mining area regeneration.
Ambrose died in Tweed Heads, NSW in 1981.
