Harold Carbery (Service No 285) was born in Dapto, NSW.

At enlistment Harold was single, 21 years old, worked as a labourer and lived at Cooroy, Qld.  He embarked from Brisbane on HMAT A11 Ascanius with 26th Battalion, B Company on 24th May 1915.  He arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli on 12th September 1915.

Harold was wounded in action on 1st December 1915 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of shell wounds to his head and foot.  He returned to duty with B Compnay in Egypt on 5th February 1916.

On 21st March 1916 Harold arrived in France; he saw service on the Western Front with 26th Battalion.  He was promoted to Corporal on 26th February 1917 and then to Sergeant on 6th August 1918.

Harold was returned to Australia in May 1919 and discharged on 11th August 1919.

On 18th April 1922 he married Blanche Donnelly and the couple raised a family.

Harold died in Brisbane in 1943 and is buried in Witta Cemetery in the Caloundra region of Qld.
