William Norman Cameron
William Cameron (Service No 242) was born in Wollongong, NSW.
At the time of enlistment William was single, 20 years of age, employed as a fireman and had previously served 3 years with 37th Infantry Militia.
William embarked with the rank of Lance Corporal on HMAT A29 - Suevic with the 6th Light Horse Regiment, B Squadron on 21 December 1914. He arrived in Egypt in early 1915 and then departed for the Gallipoli, Turkey arriving on 15 May 1915.
William was pomoted to Corporal on 13 June and then Sergeant on 17 September 1915. He was evacuated to hospital on 3 October 1915 and rejoined his Unit in Egypt in January 1916. William saw service in Egypt and the Middle East.
William returned to Australia in December 1918 on Special 1914 leave and he was medically discharged on 30 May 1919.
His brother, Allan Cameron (Service No 2284) also served.
In 1920 William married Phyllis Lowe in Sydney, NSW and together they had one child.
William died in Brisbane, Queensland in 1956 and is remembered on the Kiama War Memorial.
