Frederick Montague Clarke
Frederick Clarke (Service No 664) was born in Hobart, Tasmania.
At enlistment, Frederick was single, 27 years old, worked as a storeman and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W. Frederick nominated his father, also Frederick, who lived in Queen's Parade, Wollongong as his next of kin.
Frederick embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A55 Kyarra with Australian General Hospital on 28th November 1914. He arrived in Egypt and saw service on hospital ships travelling between Gallipoli and Egypt, and Egypt and Australia, during 1915.
On 4th April 1916 arrived in France, and joined 11th Field Ambulance on 8th April 1916. Frederick saw service on the Western Front until he was wounded in action on 18th October 1917. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right thigh. He was repatriated to Australia in April 1918 and discharged medically unfit on 15th October 1918.
In 1918 Frederick married Lydia Wynn in Sydney and they raised 4 children.
He died in 1970.
