Frederick Champion (Service No 2693) was born in Jubblepore (later Jabalpur), India in March 1875.  Soon after his birth, the family came to Australia and settled in Tasmania where his father served as a minister until his death in 1898.

At enlistment in Kiama, N.S.W. Frederick was single, 41 years old and worked as a grazier.   He nominated his brother, A H Champion of Bungendore, N.S.W., as his next of kin.

Frederick embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A24 Benalla with 39th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement on 9th November 1916.  He arrived in England on 9th January 1917 and joined 39th Battalion in the field on 11th August 1917.

Frederick saw service on the Western Front with no wounding. 

He was granted leave for work from 24th June 1919 to 24th August 1919.  He returned to Australia in October 1919 for discharge on 28th December 1919.

He took up farming in Queensland after the war.  On 23rd April 1934 Frederick married Gladys Rogers in Queensland and the couple raised 2 children.

Frederick died in Brisbane in 1947.
